I hope that someone here can help me out. I have a AX 1.1 among the last models produced in '99 as the Proton Tiara in Malaysia.
Now i have a question regarding the brakes. Is it possible to use the wheel hub and brake calipers from a 205?
Would the driveshaft fitting be the same?
I want to do this because the wheel is only 3 studs. I want to it 4 stud wheels and ventilated discs in front and solid discs on the rear.
Thanks in advance. Please reply in english (doesn't matter if it's broken english) i can't understand your language.
I've posted this on another forum and one of them was kind enough to help me translate it.

zijn vraag is of de wielophanging van een Peugeot 205 op zijn AX past.
hij wil graag de geventileerde remschijven monteren en de 4 gaats velgen.
daarnaast vraagt hij of de steekassen passen ivm de diameter en aantal splains.
Need help with AX Braking system

the rear axle wil fit from a 205, but the front suspension /wheel hub's won't
what does fit are the wheel hub's from a citroen saxo or peugeot 106.
the driveshaft fitting can be different, i don't know what kind of driveshaft fitting they used for the tiara, for a ax there are 2 different kind of driveshaft fittings, 1 for the 1.1/1.0 versions and 1 for the 1.4 version.
The 1.4 version has the same fitting as in a 106 or saxo, but the 1.1 doesn't, but than again i don't know if the tiara has the same driveshaft's as the ax 1.1.
you could always ofcourse use the driveshafts from a 1.4 ax but that can be difficult to find in your country, or you could swap the homokinetic ends from a 1.4 driveshaft from a saxo/106 and fit them on the 1.1 driveshaft's.

the brakes of a 205 GTi or XS will fit on the suspension struts of an AX diesel. The same brakes are also used in all kinds of bigger citro?ns or Peugeots. You need the ventilated disks of the ax GTI, Saxo or 106. You can use the hub of a saxo or a 106. The hubs of the 205 will fit in the bearing but the have a different offset and I don't know if the drive shafts will work out.
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the f#ck alone.

hmmm... 205 rear axle is the same eh? ok. There's a old 205 available for that. I'll just rip it off that...
now for the fronts. Problem is we never got the 106 or the saxo here.
Our AX has only one version that is the latest version of the AX 1.1 petrol carb. It was produced from 1996 thru to 1998 while stocks ran right thru to 2000. There's two types of front calipers. One the girling type on earlier models '96/'97 and the other newer Lucas/Bendix type (similar to the rear calipers on the ZX 1.9/2.0). Mine uses the latter.
The driveshaft is small. I dunno if a photo would be of any help. I take some anyway and post it here together with the photo of the suspension struts etc.
We have some half cut shops here in Malaysia that do occasionally bring in AXes. But mostly they only have 3 stud wheel hubs on them... it'd take a miracle to come by any... and many owners here are into modifying their cars to the max!
Since jou have the bendix front calipers most of the 205 / 309 / 306 / zx
types will fit on your bolt pattern. Most 4 bolt hubs from a 205 / zx 1.1 / 1.4 will fit a AX wheelbearing. just find out if the driveshaft securly fits to the inner side of the wheelbearing. If not you use a small grinder to create some space behind the splines on your driveshaft until it does fit.
In principle the standard AX GTI front disks should fit in this combination, used it myself several times. 205 disks will not fit due to different offset.
The 205 rear axle will not fit but the brakes can be converted. Take the complete brakes from the 205 and AX axle including the big center taps. Removing these might take some heating, WD 40 and hammering but look out not to damage the threads.
Drill four holes in the anchor plate to fit it on the AX arm and mount the entire system.
succes,
P.

kakanox, yeah... on advise from kreazy...
Peter,
Noted and thanks for the info
well, here's the other prob, we don't have the ZX 1.1 or 1.4 here... smallest engine is the 1.6 and that is rare... i think there're only about a handful here. Likewise the 205. It just so happens my workshop has one in his place which is ready for scrapping...
q01z,
I thought not... but well... worth a try... hehehe...
It is a real challenge fixing up a AX here! I've got another problem with the car but i'll post it in a new thread...
